Below is a summary of the important sections of the GRE PTA By-Laws. A complete set of by-laws is available by contacting the Parliamentarian.
1. Every individual who is a member of GRE PTA is, by virtue of the fact, a member of the National PTA and the Colorado PTA. Membership is available without regard to race, color, creed or national origin. GRE PTA conducts an annual membership drive, but anyone may join at any time. Currently, dues are $6.00 per member.
2. The officers of this PTA, with the exception of president, are elected by a ballot at the regular meeting in the month of April. President-elect secedes automatically to the office of the president. The 3rd vice-president is the principal. The executive board elects a parliamentarian.
3. To be eligible to be nominated for any officer position, a person must be a member in good standing, and must commit to attend at least 1 PTA training class. To be eligible for the office of president-elect, a candidate, in addition to the requirements above, must have held a position of an officer and/or served as a committee chairperson within the previous two years.
4. Duties of officers are as follow: The president shall preside at all meetings of the PTA and of the board, is a member ex-officio of all committees except the nominating committee, and will coordinate the work of the officers and committees. The president-elect will serve under the president and participate on the Finance Committee as well as serve as communication liaison with the school community. The vice-presidents will act as aids to the president and shall coordinate with and assist the committee chairpersons. The secretary will record and save the minutes of all meetings, have a current copy of the by-laws, maintain a membership list, and submit the minutes for publication. The treasurer will have custody of all funds of this PTA, will keep a full and accurate account of receipts and expenditures, will make disbursements, and present a financial statement at every meeting. The treasurer serves as chairperson of the Finance Committee. The parliamentarian is to advise the presiding officer on questions of parliamentary law and matter of procedure, and serve as chairman of the By-law and Procedure Committee.
5. At least 6 regular meetings will be held during the school year. Dates of meeting will be announced at the first regular meeting. Seven days notice will be given of a change of date. Special meetings may be called by the president or by a majority of the executive board, seven days notice having been given. The election will be held in April. Nominations for any office close at the end of the March meeting. 6. Only members of this PTA may serve on any committee. Each committee will appoint its chairperson. Committee chairs coordinate committee activities with the vice-presidents. Committee chairs will meet with the executive board at least once a year.
