PTA Meeting Minutes

GRE PTA Unapproved Minutes

March 19, 2008

Call to Order:

Lora Sattler called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm. There were 14 members present.

Principal’s Report

Lora Sattler read a statement from Annette Zambrano, stating the following dates for the next school year.

            Spring Break      March 30-April 6, 2009

            Silent Auction    April 10, 2009

            Carnival May 1, 2009

Mary Lloyd also announced that 6th grade Outdoor Lab will be held March 23 -27, 2009

Minutes and Correspondence:

The February 27 meeting minutes were reviewed.  Shannon Arnold’s first name was corrected. Missy Stipp moved to approve the minutes as amended and Janice Kaufman seconded.

Treasurer’s Report:

Mary Lloyd gave a report.  As of March 19, 2008 there is $11,205.55 remaining for ExCEL and $11,012.42 for general budget items.

Budget Requests

Destination Imagination

Seven third graders have made it to the state competition and are requesting an additional $115 for the entry fee, in addition to the $250 already budgeted. Those present discussed that such requests have been denied in the past, due to budget constraints and the lack of breadth in the numbers of children this benefits.  After much discussion, this request was denied.

Outdoor Lab

The 52 sixth graders will “split” Outdoor Lab with Leawood Elementary this year.  GRE offered to pay the fees up front and will be reimbursed by Leawood.  As such, the sixth grade is asking for an additional $185 to front the cost.  This will appear as a deficit or “temporary loan” until we are reimbursed.  Janice Kaufman moved and Missy Stipp seconded to approve.  The motion carried.

Field Day

An invoice to purchase $460.24 for Field Day ribbons was denied by those present.

Columbine After Prom

GRE PTA received a request for a contribution for the Columbine High School after prom event. In the past we have contributed $100.  Missy Stipp moved and Tammy Simons seconded to contribute $100 to the fund.  The motion carried.

6th Grade Continuation

Mary Lloyd read a request from Tracey Tiedman for $200 for the sixth grade continuation reception, which was approved by the group. In addition, Tamra Van Norstrand moved and Missy Stipp seconded to add Sixth Grade Continuation as a line item to the budget.  The motion carried.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Mother Son Event

Marlo Butler gave a report

119 moms and a total of 252 people attended this year’s event. $989 was received, with $1,077 in expenditures.  Marlo reported that there was a lot of positive feedback.

Carnival

Valerie Sturm gave a report.

Valerie made a plea for volunteers, as only six sign up sheets have been turned in.  She also announced there may be a different inflatable out front this year, but it will be an additional $75.

Food Court

Janice Kaufman gave a report.

Janice announced that cotton candy may be an issue this year, as her best price thus far is $1.79 per bag.  She may buy it and resell, instead of making it this year. She also got the contact information from Marlo Butler’s connection for candy purchase.

Silent Auction 2009

Mary reported that another family has donated one month of wipes.  She has also received donations from realtors and 1st Bank.  These donations will all be acknowledged in the April Raccoon Tales.  Katie Sheehan will be helping Mary with the committee.

Mary was also advised to use her allocated budget for the remainder of the school year.
